Diamir 2, a new step!
Diamir, which would literally mean “king of the mountains”, is one of the names given to Nanga Parbat on its western slope.
Always accessible with better performance
Renewing the Diamir was a major challenge, a wing acclaimed by all thanks to its accessibility, safety, performance and weight, our best seller in the segment for 20 years!
Above all, it was necessary to keep the incredible accessibility and safety as well as low weight while improving performance in turbulent and accelerator conditions as well as better liveliness at the beginning of the turn.
We had a clear idea of the few technologies we were going to implement but we still had to find the right balance, homogeneity in tensions, the balance of the sail, a lot of work, modifications on the prototypes to achieve a result that completely satisfies us.
- Better efficiency in turbulence, a more direct turn, more intuitive, a more homogeneous sail
- Excellent glide even in turbulent conditions, comparable to higher elongation sails
- Very homogeneous turn allowing you to finish your turns facing the slope serenely
- If necessary, a stable descent to the ears
Our opinion in flight
– “From inflation, the difference with the first Diamir is noticeable. You can feel a more tense sail, with more energy while benefiting from damping that can be easily controlled on the ground. Movements are managed at the command accompanied by a refocusing without difficulty, she only asks to fly so let’s go…”
In flight the evolution is noticeable, pitch and yaw movements are erased by our new profile offering excellent glide even in turbulent conditions. The sail advances without movement on the rope or between the two half-sail. The thermal efficiency is bluffing thanks to an excellent drop rate and formidable maneuverability in the middle of the fork that make the DIAMIR 2 a sail particularly easy to operate even in tonic conditions!
Pure performance is there and despite an extension that we have kept close to 6, it rivals other sails in the same category with a higher elongation.
In transition, the accelerator reveals the full potential of sailing; from the first bar the acceleration is frank and the glide offers a greatly improved glide.
We strongly recommend using DIAMIR 2 in the middle of the fork, rather than in the upper part.
Behind the scenes
The specifications were set at the end of 2014, after a few weeks of CAD on our software developed by the staff of engineers and professor emeritus (Michel L. and Pierre P.) at the service of our designers (Xavier D. and Pierre R.). The first prototype flew in April 2015; satisfying in performance and maneuverability it had a too powerful wing tip. A second prototype will be made at the end of 2015 that opened up new perspectives and showed the limits not to be crossed. The third worthy heir to the first two, was a pure marvel from the first flights, a few adjustments will suffice and comparative flights confirming its excellence against its competitors, the DIAMIR 2 was born… The approvals finalized the process in June 2016 for M and L and in August for S and XS, i.e. 18 months of work where the entire NERVURES team invested a lot of energy and passion. From the design office to seamstresses who had to invent new techniques for particular assembly processes, through the many development flights, it is from the work of the entire Nervures team that the DIAMIR 2 was born!
